our story our story

As told by William Hopp:

It was a cold and dreary day. Or maybe it wasn’t, but it had been a lazy day for the first half of it. The idea of Frameless came to me when I was relaxing on my couch, trying to take a quick nap before I had to head into work. I had never really been able to figure out how best to collage my prized collection without it looking tacky or ruining the prints, but while staring at it, spread across the wall next to my TV, the solution just appeared. It all made sense. It would work perfectly, and if you looked at my initial schematics, you’d never recognize that it was Frameless. That’s because conceptualizing the idea was only the first strike of the pick axe.

Working with both graph paper, and Legos, I started working through my ideas, trying to figure out how best to develop Frameless. It wasn’t until I connected with a 3D print shop that I was able to take R&D to the next level, and before long, I had my finished product. Only I didn’t. I thought it was perfect, but there was just this one little thing to fix. And when I fixed that, I found something else I could improve on. New parts came in the mail, along with new hiccups, and better ideas. A failed Kickstarter led me to find the guy who would eventually be doing the injection molds for us, but in the beginning, he helped refine my idea, tweaking it so that it would be both feasible and cost effective.

With a product that I felt we could run with, I filed for a patent, and set off on securing financing for mass production. During that time, I worked and slaved over my design. Then I entered and won second place in the pitch competition for the 2016 Governor’s Conference in Las Vegas. We ran a second, far more successful Kickstarter, which doubled its goal. And then we got approved for both our trademark and our patent. The patent was a nice surprise, as it almost always takes over 2 years for approval, and we received it in 9 months, the quickest our patent attorney had ever seen.

Astonishingly, we received funding from Nevada State Bank in February of 2018, and now, we’re excitedly heading into the future. We had an astonishing Ribbon Cutting at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con and we’re already setting up for the end of 2018 and rolling into 2019, with new conventions, new sizes, new pieces, and a few more add-on products that you’re going to absolutely love.

And through it all, we never forgot where we came from. We were just a few guys (and one girl) trying to find a way to display our prized comics and art prints on the wall. We’re beyond excited with the finished product, and we can’t wait to share Frameless with the world.

This is merely the condensed story of Frameless, continue on to read the whole journey, the ups and downs, victories and pitfalls, and what lies ahead for Frameless.
