Sizing Your Artwork & Comics for Frameless Sizing Your Artwork & Comics for Frameless

Frameless is designed to fit perfectly around your art, prints, posters, and comics. Because of that, we’ve included this handy dandy guide to sizing your art prints and comics for Frameless.

What you will need

  1. A ruler or measuring tape that can measure down to the 32nd of an inch
  2. A protractor
  3. A smooth, flat surface to work on

Note: If you don't have a ruler or measuring tape that can measure down to the 32nd of an inch, at least use one that can measure to the 16th of an inch, and estimate to the 32nd of an inch by using the space in between the measurements.

How to Measure Your Artwork & Comics

  1. Check all 4 corners with the protractor to ensure that they are all 90 degree, right angles. The vast majority of art prints, photos, and comic books will be 90 degree right angles.

  1. Measure your display piece along all four sizes, being as accurate as possible to the 32nd of an inch. Measure two or three times just to be certain.

  1. Measure your display piece along both diagonals, being as accurate as possible to the 32nd of an inch. Measure two or three times just to be certain.

  2. If parallel sides have different measurements, or if the diagonals have different measurements, measure them again, or recheck the angles. They should be exactly the same. If they're still not the same, it's possible that your artwork or comics don't have perfect 90 degree angles.

  3. If measuring a comic book, count the pages. Measure the thickness at the top of the book, along the binding, and along the opening, being as accurate as possible to the 32nd of an inch.

  4. The measurements will tell you the "usable space" for Frameless.

What does Usable Space Mean for Frameless?

The usable space is the dimension of the part of the Protective Sleeve that covers the front of your artwork or comic. For sizes that hold a single sheet of paper, the size is always 1/32 of an inch bigger horizontal and vertical to account for the fold of the Protective Sleeve, since the flap needs to be folded over completely.

For example, the 11x17 Art Print Kit will always be 11 1/32 by 17 1/32 to allow for the fold, but the usable space is only 11x17 because of the fold. For sizes that hold a comic book, the size can be exact to the comic it’s displaying, since there is a double fold that holds in the comic book like a thin box.
