The Launch Party

Meltdown Comics, 1993 - 2018. You had an amazing run, and we were honored that we could be guests in your house during that time.

Of course, nobody knew that their time was coming to a close. They were the staple of Hollywood, the largest pop culture emporium on the west coast. They hosted so many amazing artists during their era, we even saw Jonah Heston getting ready for a set on the stage in back when we had finished setting up our booth the night prior to our launch. It was a sign. Jonah was the new host of the wildly successful MST3K show, and he had just had a record breaking Kickstarter run in reinvigorating the show. We were in good company, and we knew that the next morning we'd knock a home run out of the park with our Kickstarter launch. Is that foreshadowing enough?

The launch started out brilliantly. We had our first backer just after we went live, before we even made it to Meltdown. We were beyond ecstatic. And we had purchased a day of streaming on Meltdown's own network, XSN, with prime radio spots in L.A.

It was terrifying. None of us had really been on something live like this, and we were getting input from the Meltdown crew with how to maximize our time in there. It was supposed to be easy; it most certainly was not.

Not only did we have to find content to fill for a half a day of talking, but we needed to reach 1/3rd of our funding goal within the first 48 hours. Statistically, most Kickstarters will earn 1/3rd of their funding in the first and last 48 hours, and the final 1/3rd will be earned throughout the middle of the campaign. We knew that if we could earn 40% of our goal, we'd have a pretty good chance of succeeding. How much were we asking for? Only...cough...$50,000

We earned about 5% of our goal that day at XSN. It hit us like a whallop in the gut. We honestly didn't know where we went wrong, and leaving the event, we felt defeated. We put on smiles, saying that tomorrow would be different, but inside, we knew that we had jumped the gun. We thought we had been ready, but we really weren't. We ended up raising less than 10% of our goal over the course of the Kickstarter.

But with every defeat, an opportunity opens, and little did we know, our falied first Kickstarter was going to be the greatest thing that was ever going to happen to Frameless... In the mean time, if you have an hour or 6 free, you can enjoy us stumbling over our words in the replay of our run at Meltdown.
